I can't update my iPad from 3.2 to the newest one because my iTunes says it times out.?

Okay I have had an iPad first generation since early June last year. And I havnt updated it in a while it is at 3.2 and really want to update to the newest but when I try my iTunes connection times out even when I stay on the page or in iTunes. Please help I won't jailbreak my iPad
